Types of taxi

In Addis Ababa there are a couple of types of taxi: The blue and white ones which belongs to private company, and the government taxis painted in yellow cream colour, which are operated by the National Tour Operation (NTO).

Location

In order to board a taxi, you can get an immediate taxi service by the Airport Taxi at their counters located in the Arrivals Hall of both terminals.

Fares

Regarding fares, due to there are no meters, the yellow cream taxis have fixed prices for the scheduled routes, since they are the government taxis. You’ll need to pay your trip in advance and if you have the chance, you can agree on a fee with the driver.

Be careful since the blue and white taxis do neither have meter but prices are ten times higher than the blue and white ones since they are unofficial taxis.

Bajajs (Tuk – Tuk)

By taking a Bajaj you’ll be able to get around easily through Addis Ababa.

Location

You can find Bajajs at any point of the street though they are banned from larger roads. 

Fares

A ride for an individual trip is 30 Birr, for a multiple passenger trip is 1.50 Birr. 

You can bargain prices with the driver.
