Taxis Addis Ababa Airport

By taxi you can get to Addis Ababa downtown from the airport within 10 minutes according to traffic, since it is 8 km away from the airport.

In Addis Ababa there are a couple of taxi types: The blue and white ones which belongs to private company, and the government taxis, painted in yellow cream colour, which are operated by the National Tour Operation (NTO).


In order to board a taxi, you can get an immediate taxi service by the Airport Taxi at their counters located in the Arrivals Hall of both terminals. Opening hours: 24 hours.

To ride the taxi, you just need to go to the taxi ranks outside both terminals, they are facing them.

Regarding fares, due to there are no meters, the yellow cream taxis have fixed prices for the scheduled routes, since they are the government taxis. You’ll need to pay your trip in advance and if you have the chance, you can agree on a fee with the driver.

Be careful since the blue and white taxis do neither have meter but prices are ten times higher than the blue and white ones, since they are unofficial taxis.

Estimated prices to get to Addis Ababa are between 200.00 to 300.00 Birr.

Share a car

Sharing car apps are a useful way to get to your destination at a reduced cost comparing to the above options. You can consider to share your ride with more people or simply join another one’s trip.

Apps like Uber or BlaBlaCar may be useful for your trip to any of the cities nearby.

Bajajs (Tuk – Tuk)

By taking a Bajaj, you’ll be able to get around easily through Addis Ababa.


You can find Bajajs at any point of the street, though they are banned from larger roads. 


A ride for an individual trip is 30 BIRR, for a multiple passenger trip is 1.50 BIRR. 

You can bargain the price to the driver.
